Some things that can help prevent fires from starting around your home/ property are
Removing any branches that hang low
Removing dead or dying plants, trees, and debris
Remain at least 15 feet between shrubs and trees
Have gaps like paths and driveways to allow fuel breaks
Fuel breaks are the gap that allow firefighters to prevent the fire from growing and is something most people can do but choose not to. This can prevent fires from getting to your property and also stop them from engulfing your house in flames when fires start nearby.
The defensible space can help create a buffer zone meaning it can help create a buffer between a building and vegetation, plants, and debris.
Creating defensible space:
Establishing zones: the zone nearest to the home will be the one area that will be more work and constant work.
Remove flammable things: dead vegetation, branches hanging low, and any shrubs or trees too close together
Manage vegetation: keeping the grass mowed, and cut shrubs and other vegetation
Cleans roofs and gutters: cleaning roofs, gutters, decks, balconies, and stairways from any and all vegetation can create defensible space.
